ALMATY: Kazakh bank Turanalem to raise $3 bln abroad in 05
Kazakhstan's second biggest bank, Turanalem, may borrow up to $3.0 billion on foreign markets next year, including up to $500 million in Russia, the Kazakh Stock Exchange said on Thursday. The bourse said in a statement that bank shareholders had on Dec. 2 approved a $2.5 billion ceiling for long-term foreign borrowing and a $500 million promissory note programme to be issued in Russia

ALMATY: Head of Kazakh bank shot dead while hunting
The head of Kazakhstan's second largest bank TuranAlem, Yerzhan Tatishev, died on Sunday in a shooting accident while hunting wolves, the government spokesman said. Government spokesman Murat Buldekbayev said Tatishev had died on a hunting expedition in the Central Asian state's southern region near the border with Kyrgyzstan.

ALMATY: Kazakh TuranAlem sees up to 10 bln rbl bonds in '05
Bank TuranAlem, Kazakhstan's second largest bank, will issue rouble-denominated bonds worth up to 10 billion roubles ($357 million) in Russia next year, the bank said on Thursday. "We will issue Russian bonds in 2005 and will hold a tender (to select a lead manager for the issue) by the end of this year," TuranAlem Executive Director Zhamilya Sarsembayeva told journalists. She gave no concrete timeframe for the issue. Sarsembayeva said TuranAlem had already floated on the Russian market its promissory notes worth around $50 million. Sarsembayeva said rouble-denominated bonds would be launched through a TuranAlem subsidiary.

ALMATY: Kazakh TuranAlem says to buy Azeri, Armenian banks
Bank TuranAlem, Kazakhstan's second-largest bank, plans to buy banks in Azerbaijan and Armenia as part of its expansion programme in post-Soviet states, it said on Tuesday. "In the immediate future the bank plans to open subsidiaries in Azerbaijan and Armenia," TuranAlem said in a statement. "The bank does not aim to build up its subsidiaries from scratch, preferring to buy the already existing banks."
