Chinghiz Aitmatov becomes an Independent Director of the Board of Directors of JSC "BTA Bank"

World-famous writer Chinghiz Aitmatov has been elected as an independent member of the Board of Directors of JSC "BTA Bank". The decision was made during the regular meeting of Shareholders taken place on April 14, 2008.

The presence of prominent classic of modern literature is reasoned by social policy of the Bank. BTA as a financial institution considers the support of humanitarian development as a part of its mission directed to preserve the unity of cultural and historical area of CIS as well as to develop the culture in the countries were the Bank operates.

Creative work of Chinghiz Aitmatov is as global as BTA’s operations. His work takes a deserving place in the treasuries of Kyrgyz and Kazakh prose and in the international cultural legacy as well. According to UNESCO, Ch. Aitmatov’s works are the most read in the world after Shakespeare’s and Tolstoy’s. Aitmatov’s books are translated into 176 languages and were published in 128 countries; total edition exceeded 80 million units.

This year will be the most memorable for literary society of CIS and for those people who honor the writer’s works as the writer will celebrate his 80 in December. BTA will provide sponsorship to the publishing of Aitmatov’s collection of works in eight volumes and to the album devoted to his long-lasting creative work.
